This neighborhood is packed tightly with dilapidated tenements and squalid hovels. None of the expert craftsmanship evident in the other neighborhoods of the Xylomancy district is evident here. The awful rancid smell occasionally noticed in other parts of the city hangs thick here, mounting a constant assault against the senses of those passing through. What little open space exists here are mounds of polluted earth. Some of these mounds have been recently disturbed, their contents uncovered and hastily removed: they are mass graves full of corpses trapped in an eternal state of rot. Still other blocks of houses have been dismantled, leaving little but muddy holes. The underground sewers never reached this district. All they have are open waste culverts cut in to the earth. However, they are long dry.
In the center of the district lies a long, low building belching black smoke at all hours from a crude smoke stack. It is the source of the odor. It is the Rendering Plant.
